Artist's Bio

Ellen Giggenbach was born in Bavaria, Germany. She now lives in the seaside village of Eastbourne in New Zealand with her husband and two young boys. After studying Graphic Art in Vienna for 2 years, she went on to receive a New Zealand Diploma with Distinction in Design. Her art works are inspired by traditional European folk art, her unique natural environment and love of the distinctive colours and forms of mid century illustration and design. Each piece starts its life as an idea only. Piece by piece it grows like a puzzle till even one more element would upset a carefully crafted balance of shape and colour. Ellen’s art works are unashamedly decorative, designed to be pleasing to the eye. Vibrant yet sophisticated, intuitive yet precise.

Queenstown-born artist Ira Mitchell is a trained teacher and BFA graduate. She is also an artist-educator for GOLDEN paints of New York, where she travels annually to train and show.  A nomad by nature, she moves constantly to create images in locations that inspire her. Her work is informed by the bold palette of David Hockney, collages of Henri Matisse, and childhood delights of Eric Carl who created the Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Inspired by the shape of an accordion, the Accordion Lamp is a must have home accessory for any room.

To open, simply pull it as you would play an accordion. It will transform into a sculptural light emitting a wonderful ambient warm LED light through the accordion shaped pages. Close, and open again and the light changes to cool white LED light. When fully closed, it masquerades as a laser-cut wooden hexagon.

Why use CUPPACOFFEECUP?

It is estimated that 100-200 million disposable cups are used each year in New Zealand.  That number is even higher in Australia – with approximately 800 million disposable cups being used each year.

Many disposable cups cannot be recycled because they are lined with plastic.  Even compostable disposable cups cannot be composted without the correct facilities.  It is often the case that disposable cups end up in landfill.

Each cloth is screen-printed in 1 or 2 colours with water-based inks. A Swedish dishcloth has an amazing absorption capacity, able to absorb 15 times its own weight.
